All you need to know about the latest Energy Bill Support Scheme.

Earlier this year, following the sharp rise in energy bills, the Government announced The Energy Bills Support Scheme (EBSS).

The Energy Bills Support Scheme is a Government funded discount that every UK household will begin to receive in October this year. Following initial announcement, the Scheme was not well received as it was proposed as a small loan that would need to be repaid. However, now the amount has increased from £200 to £400 and households are no longer required to repay this amount in the future.

Although all householders are eligible for this discount, the process will differ dependent on how you pay for your energy and who your provider is. In most cases, your energy provider will reach out to you about your support payment when details have been finalized with the Government.

Key Information so far:

  • All UK households with a domestic electricity connection are eligible for this payment. There is no need for prior application.
  • The payment has been altered from a loan into a discount, with the government now confirming that householders will not have to pay this back.
  • Rather than providing payment in one large lump-sum, this payment will be spread across the winter months in an attempt to help heat homes.

When will I receive my payment?

Payments will be spread across six months and will be received as follows:

  • £66 in October 2022
  • £66 in November 2022
  • £67 in December 2022
  • £67 in January 2023
  • £67 in February 2023
  • £67 in March 2023
